Letter # 7

January 1, 1945

Dear Mom,
Well I've finally been assigned to a tactical unit as you can see from my return address and will be with this unit for the duration of my stay overseas.

We arrived here yesterday afternoon and were greeted very cordially by other members of the squadron. They seem to be a good bunch of boys and I think I'll enjoy my stay with them. We had a very quiet New Year celebration last night because most of the boys are flying this morning.

I suppose they found out from past experience that drinking and flying don't mix.

I don't know just how much I can tell you in my letters so for the time being I'll stay off the reference to missions and locations.

When you forward any packages to me (this is the address you use) send me a bottle of Parker 51 ink. That's the only kind I can use so make sure you get the right ink. I'd prefer black ink if you can get it.

My mail will be very slow coming in for the next few weeks but I'll write to you frequently. I don't think I've been doing too bad lately.

That's about all I have to say for the present now so I'll say s'long.

My regards to all

Love Avy

P.S. Don't forget to keep me informed about Gladys.
PPS I'd appreciate reading material so include Colliers - Saturday Evening Post - Cosmopolitan - Readers Digest etc in your packages. Also would appreciate some after shaving lotion. I miss the Sunday comics and would also appreciate them
