Letter # 12

January 19, 1945

Dear Mom,
This island is about the muddiest place I've ever had the misfortune to be stationed. I thought Camp Crowder and Florida were muddy but this place has them beat by far.

It rained for about fifteen consecutive hours last night and I had to get up early this morning to fly. Fortunately the mission was cancelled but we'll probably fly it tomorrow morning instead. When I got back to my tent that floor had about two inches on it. The mud in the camp are was about 1 1/2 feet deep which can be very annoying.

The mosquitoes are plenty thick here. I have approximately 150 bites on my back alone. These damn mosquitoes fight back when you try to kill them. I've come to the conclusion that I'm sick and tired of this place but that doesn't do me any good. I'll still have to stick out my time here.

That's all for now so goodbye

Regards to all

Love Avy
